Located on its original site, the 1843 Durant House Museum is Kane County’s own “Little House on the Prairie. This lovingly restored pioneer homestead functions as a "house for all seasons," with special programs throughout the year that highlight prairie living. Expert staff and costumed docents, including our Prairie Children, interpret our rich heritage and reveal the reality of 1840’s prairie life. Daily routines, pastimes, laundry, food preparation, toys, and tools are just a few of the fascinating regular features. Complete your visit with a tour of the one-room Pioneer Sholes School, located just a few steps away. Children’s educational programs, scout badge programs, and private tours off season by appointment. |
