This 1872 one-room school house, originally built on David Sholes’ farm west of St. Charles on Burlington Road, was moved and authentically restored in 1979. Visitors can go back in time with the school marm who will teach lessons and games of the early days. Groups or classes can re-enact a school day in this living history museum by scheduling an appointment. Special open houses occur throughout the year with costumed docents, including junior scholars, ready to share the school’s history, lessons, games, and crafts. Complete your visit with a tour of the Durant House Museum, just a short walk down the road.
