Red Oak Nature Center

Nestled on the east bank of the Fox River, Red Oak Nature Center is surrounded by 40 acres of lush forest and wildlife habitat – an ideal setting for visitors to learn about the great outdoors through direct interaction with nature.

The “Sense the Seasons” exhibit further enhances the educational experience with environmental hands-on participation and lessons of how the natural world cycles from one season to the next – an interactive journey with real-life sights, sounds and smells. Other highlights include:
  • Wildlife Room: Features animals in the Fox River area – frogs, salamanders, snakes and more – with a 500 gallon turtle and fish habitat.
  • Maple Classroom: Relax for a cinema-like experience and view our animated video about all the cool stuff around Red Oak.
  • Devil’s Cave: Explore the only known cave in the Aurora area.
  • Observation Deck: Enjoy spectacular views of the Fox River and river wildlife, migratory birds and the wooded shorelines and islands.
  • Education Pavilion: The spacious picnic shelter features a limestone fireplace and tables, serving as an educational venue for various programs.
  • Trails: Six wood-chipped hiking trails and the paved Fox River Trail wind throughout the woods that border the Fox River.

Admission to Red Oak is free
